Training Course on Larval Fish Identification and Fish Early Life History Science

The Regional Scientific and Technical Committee recommended that a Training Course on Larval Fish Identification and Fish Early Life History Science be held as part of the South China Sea Training Programme.

Desired Content 

The Desired Content for this Course includes:

  • Methods for larval fish sampling and surveys,
  • Methods for identifying larval and juvenile fish,
  • Preparation of larval fish identification sheets/manuals for key species,
  • Building national-level capacity for the processing of larval fish samples and the identification of larval fish, and
  • Standardising the methodology for fish early life history research in Southeast Asia.

Duration of Regional Training Course

1-2 weeks (16th – 31st May 2007)

Duration of National Seminars

2-3 days (July 2007)

Report of the Regional Working Group on Fisheries

The Regional Working Groups on Fisheries has recently considered and commented on the desired content for this training course. They also commented on potential participants, possible implementing entities, and how materials prepared by the group can be used as resource materials in this training course. Proponents are encouraged to review the reports of the recent meetings of this working group:
